Don moved from San Diego to Washington in 1991 with his wife Joan. His art career began as a student in Imperial Beach through his Army service in Vietnam. When he returned, he picked up his paint brushes and used them to promote various causes, including helping to found a Veterans Association in San Diego. Don had a genuine love of people and worked to touch as many as possible through his art. His studio in Old Town Anacortes was a base for that community outreach. He worked to promote the importance of the visual arts and served on the Anacortes Arts and Crafts Festival Board, and offered support to many organizations.
