Amanda Dunbar Description

Amanda Dunbar is one of the most talked about, collectible and dynamic young artists in recent history.

At the end of the eighth grade, she signed up for an after-school art class, where the instructor asked the class to paint something - anything - so that he could gauge their skill level. Amanda picked up a brush and created Mother's Touch, a portrait in the French impressionist style of a woman in a blue dress drying her small daughter after a bathThe impressed instructor called her parents - and the rest is art history.

Amanda's experiences, passion and empathy are exquisitely captured in oils on her canvases. Her love of humanity is seen in paintings that depict the celebrations of life, the emotional bonds between young and old, and her lush landscapes, often inspired by her travels, are reminisscent of European impressionists.

A serious student of art, Amanda has traveled abroad, studying under the tutelage of some of America's best-known art teachers. She has studied at France's Pont Aven School of Art, the acclaimed institution attended by Paul Gaugin. She has worked in Italy where she studied Renaissance period painting and drawing, and was inspired by the rich history and landscapes of the country. Most recently, she has returned from Turtle Island, in Fiji, where she has begun a residency program. Amanda has acquired a corporate commission from the Texas Medical Association, and with her recent international commission worth over $1M, she has secured her place among the most collectible artists in the world.

Amanda Dunbar is also a businesswoman, with her own gallery and artist studio in Dallas, TX, Galerie Papillon. In the Northwest, the Lawrence Gallery is the source of her work. She has completed her art history degree at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, and plans to continue her education to gain a masters degree, and eventually her doctorate in art history. In addition to her studies and painting, she works with several nonprofit organizations, such as the Grammy's MusiCares Foundation, Make a Wish Foundation, the Cattle Baron's Ball and various children's charities. She is currently the Ambassador for The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. She has given some $500,000 to children's charities and is targeting $1 Million.

Amanda has made numerous national TV appearances, including Oprah (twice), CBS Early Show, and Dick Clark's The Other Half, and she has been featured in print publications, including The Elegant Texan, TEEN People, Cosmo Girl and Southern Living, and in top daily newspapers around the country. She is profiled in The Artist in Me documentary produced by Mattel and marketed in its "Barbie as Rapunzel" DVD.

Amanda has commendations from the US Senate, received numerous community service awards, and a nomination to the Texas Women's Hall of Fame. Amand Dunbar, there's only one original.
